A Brief Overview
Leads, manages and directs the legal team supporting the business units and functions across all RGA’s APAC business operations in relation to legal, transactional, and regulatory matters, and serves as trusted adviser to the APAC leadership team.
What You Will Do
Provide legal advice to various departments within the APAC region and globally to support business operations and regulatory compliance within the APAC region.
Lead and manage a team of legal counsel across multiple APAC jurisdictions, including providing mentorship, professional development, and performance management assessments for team members to enhance the efficiency of legal operations in the APAC region.
Collaborate with regional business leaders and subject matter experts of various disciplines within the RGA enterprise to align legal strategy with business objectives, assess regulatory impacts of business initiatives, and advise on risk management and corporate governance matters related to the same.
Support insurance-related transactions undertaken by the company from a legal, regulatory, documentation, and negotiation perspective.
Ensure compliance with applicable insurance, reinsurance, and other applicable regulations across multiple APAC jurisdictions.
Liaise with regulatory authorities and industry associations in the APAC region.
Contribute to business development and client relationship management.
Support dispute resolution and claims management processes in the APAC region.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) from an accredited university.
Law degree from an accredited law school.
15+ years experience in insurance, reinsurance or financial services.
5+ years team leadership and management experience.
Experience in international insurance, reinsurance or financial services sector in APAC region.
Relevant experience in a law firm and corporate legal function.
Exceptional people management skills, demonstrating the ability to lead, mentor, and develop a team of direct reports and other associates.
Highly advanced ability to implement organizational, divisional and/or departmental vision and goals that result in achievement and success through exceptional leadership skills, collaboration, creative thinking, maintaining focus, and persistence, even under adversity, while maintaining the confidence of associates and customers.
Expert ability to work cooperatively and collaborate within a global legal function.
Expert ability to liaise with individuals across a wide variety of operational, functional and technical disciplines.
Expert persuasion and negotiation skills when working with internal/external customers to resolve issues/problems.
Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage multiple tasks and coordinate the delivery of legal services among numerous clients and projects while balancing competing priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
Ability to work independently in a fast‑paced environment that emphasizes information sharing, collaboration, teamwork, mutual respect and integrity.
Expert ability in implementing change within an organization, ensuring understanding, participation, and ownership.
Highly advanced ability to make timely and effective decisions and produce results through the implementation and evaluation of programs and policies.
Expert ability to foster a teamwork and customer service focused environment.
Highly advanced oral and written communication skills including presentation skills, demonstrating the ability to convey information in a way that is meaningful and well received by stakeholders and team members.
Active license to practice law in at least one APAC jurisdiction and a member in good standing of the bar.
Preferred
Experience managing outside counsel including directing scope of work and strategy, fee arrangements, budgets, costs and invoice review and approval.
Expert knowledge of insurance or reinsurance law, regulation, concepts and documents.
