Purpose of the Position: Responsible for accuracy and improvement of copy through editing, rewriting and fact-checking under minimal guidance. Add value to copy and boost loyal and regular user engagement through additional media and SEO analytics. Schedule approved content for both online and print. Lead and manage a team of production editors In this role, you will: Maintain accuracy of copy. Ensure copy is error-free and check facts. Copy improvement through careful editing, rewriting and grammar checking. Add value to copy through additional media and eye-catching visual elements. Ensure daily production deadlines are met. Have the ability to turn around raw copy fast when needed. Run live blogs on the SCMP web site for major entertainment events. Lead, collaborate and motivate a team of production editors to achieve departmental goals and objectives. Work closely with editors on Culture to ensure smooth copy flow throughout the week. Take charge of daily content scheduling for both online and for print. Collaborate with writers, graphic designers, photographers, videographers and colleagues from other desks in the Newsroom. Work with editors on Culture to ensure that the Post is a leader in covering cultural and lifestyle trends and cross-cultural currents. Excellent grasp of cultural and lifestyle trends in Hong Kong, Mainland China, SE Asia and the world. Skills and Experience that will lead to success: Degree or above in Journalism, Communication, Languages or related disciplines. At least 5 years of relevant experience in real-time online news operation, wire service, newspaper, or newspaper production. Experience in managing a small team preferable. Solid news judgement and the ability to communicate clearly and concisely. Good understanding of cultural issues in Hong Kong, Mainland China, the region and the world. Sophisticated English writing style. Flair for engaging copy and generating ideas. Ability to craft SEO heads and social media headlines that will boost traffic. Must be SEO savvy, and is well-versed in using digital tools and social media to boost both reach and user engagement. Can-do attitude and attention to detail. Passionate and knowledgeable about digital and AI technologies. Video editing experience and knowledge of online production is desirable. Good command of written and spoken English. Fluency in Mandarin and Cantonese is desirable. Broad knowledge of cultural trends and issues, including wellness, food and wine, arts and entertainment, travel, fashion, social movements and the media. Extensive network in cultural communities.
